Statement: Oxfam South Africa Addresses Recent Claims on Governance Leadership.

Oxfam South Africa is aware of recent public comments made by Dr. Simamkele Dlakavu, in which she refers to herself as the new head of the Board for Oxfam South Africa. We would like to gently clarify that current Chair of the Board is Ms. Phelisa Nkomo. Dr. Dlakavu is not employed by Oxfam South Africa, nor does she hold any formal role within the organisation.

Oxfam South Africa wish to express its gratitude to Ms. Amanda Mavuso, (Family) for taking us into confidence about Dr Dlakavu’s state and the interventions currently being undertaken by the family.  Through our engagement, we understand that Dr. Dlakavu did not make the statement with any harmful intent. We have also come to learn that she is navigating a deeply personal journey.

We wish to express our solidarity to the family and friends as well as extend heartfelt wishes to Dr. Dlakavu’s healing journey.
