Regional Gender Lead: Southern Africa

Rukia Cornelius is the Regional Gender Lead for Southern Africa. Her main areas of organising through feminist movement building are Women’s Participation and Transformative Leadership, Ending Violence against Women and Girls, Women’s Economic Rights, Livelihoods and Markets, Gender in Extractives and Governance & Accountability. Having worked in development for over 17 years, Rukia has gained a broad skill set in organisational development, programme and curriculum development, civil society platform strengthening, policy advocacy and campaigning. She has contributed her skills in spaces such as the Treatment Action Campaign as National Manager, Alive & Kicking UK centred on sustainable development for women in rural areas as Country Director, World AIDS Campaign Programme Director focused on evidence-based advocacy and civil society platform strengthening with Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa. Before joining Oxfam she worked with Sonke Gender Justice as National Manager: Community, Education & Mobilisation.
