Louisa Zondo

Advocate Louisa Zondo is the board Secretary and Chair of Oxfam South Africa’s Funding Committee. Louisa is CEO of the Bertha Gxowa Foundation, an NGO with a vision of empowered communities, realizing their full potential, achieving social justice, human rights and development and creating a just world. Louisa has held senior legal positions including as General Council for both state and private companies including South African Airways and SASOL. She was appointed as founding CEO of the South African Human Rights Council. Louisa has served in a UN-associated international organisation in Vienna, as Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (PrepCom of the CTBTO). Following her time with the PrepCom of the TCBTO, Louisa came back to South Africa to serve as CEO of the National Nuclear Regulator. Louisa is a board member of the National Research Foundation, where she is Chair of its Procurement Committee.
In 2010, Louisa was appointed to the National Advisory Council Innovation’s Committee on Science Engineering and Technology for Women and in 2012 was appointed a member of the council. In August 2014, she left Sasol where she had spent more than two years as a General Manager responsible for Legal and Compliance Services. A dedicated mother of four sons and a captivated grandmother of two toddlers, Louisa’s other deepest passion is the transformation of lives with very particular focus on women, children and education as well as the realisation of social, economic and environmental rights.
